Careers

Our Master of Business Administration really is career changing. In fact, by their Second Year, over half of our current MBA students had changed roles. Many secured promotions with their current employer, while others gained the confidence to change companies, begin new careers or launch their own business.

To help you do the same, we’ve embedded career development into every part of our postgraduate teaching. You’ll also have access to our career coach, with sessions on topics including personal branding, personal impact and difficult conversations, plus our Business School careers team, alumni network and regular career-focused events.

Teaching methods

Our teaching and learning methods enable the development and sharing of skills and knowledge and are built on an expectation of active involvement in the programme.

A participative style is used throughout to enable students to learn from each other as well as from teaching staff. Experiential learning is central to our teaching philosophy.

There is a considerable emphasis on the utilisation of theory and knowledge to make sense of your own and fellow participants’ experiences at work. Case study material is widely used alongside case histories developed by fellow participants.

To ensure you gain real world business insights, we combine group based learning with practical applications. The Collective Enterprise module and your Applied Individual Project enable you to work with industry leaders to help provide solutions to their current business challenges.

Work Placement

At every stage, the Hertfordshire MBA offers you opportunities to engage with business, learn through practical, work-based assignments and apply your knowledge in real-world settings.

In your Second Year, you’ll work with an innovative enterprise, or develop your own, on our Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development module. It’s an exciting opportunity to work with practitioners, addressing live challenges facing a commercial or social enterprise.

In the Final Year of your Master’s, you’ll also undertake an applied individual project. As part of this, you’ll conduct an original piece of academic research and a piece of business consultancy. You’ll work directly for your chosen client, delivering tangible, value-adding contributions to decision-making and practice.

Study Abroad

Hertfordshire’s talented MBA student community is made up of postgraduates from almost 20 different countries and our alumni network extends even further. Together you’ll share experiences and perspectives from hugely diverse backgrounds, as well as drawing on the leadership and management experiences of the businesses and professional bodies we work with worldwide.

Our events, alumni activities and the AMBA network provide a whole range of ways for you to meaningfully engage with international businesses and issues. In fact, this diversity and international focus underpins everything we do. Our modules take a critical approach to strategic challenges, always considering the increasingly international context of leadership and management.

Take the opportunity to join our visit to the Berlin School of Economics and Law, and you’ll find yourself taking part in internationally orientated business games, networking with German Master’s students, exploring the challenges involved in international relations and discovering the differences in employment and management contexts.

During your Final Year, you’ll undertake an applied individual project, with the opportunity to work with international clients and tackle fascinating strategic challenges. You’ll be supported every step of the way by our highly regarded academic team, who will give you the guidance and encouragement to really achieve your potential.
