About Oxford Brookes MBA

The Oxford Brookes Global MBA is a flexible part-time programme. It is designed for experienced, globally-connected working professionals, giving you the confidence and inspiration to reveal your leadership potential and entrepreneurial flair.

Whether you choose to work online or during study visits on campus, you will be immersed in an environment that asks much of you and emphasises collaboration and openness.

The Oxford Brookes Global MBA begins with an induction programme to ensure that you understand fully the rigours of MBA study and to equip you with the key study skills required to succeed.

You will be encouraged to take stock of your career up to this point, undertaking an honest self-audit, in which you appraise your personal development and professional career path. You are encouraged, also, to think very carefully about what you expect to get out of the MBA, and what you are prepared to put in. The ethos of our MBA is collaborative, rather than competitive, so it is crucial to contemplate how your contribution will add value to the class and, ultimately, your own learning.

Core modules

To this The Oxford Brookes Global MBA has a range of core compulsory modules and you can view the programme structure here section and find out more on the business school website.

While you study disciplines separately, you also analyse how they interrelate in practice through studying integrative cases and applying knowledge to practice through a series of ‘Leadership Engagement’ challenges.

Elective modules

After the core modules, you choose two elective modules which enable you to follow a specialist pathway through the MBA.

MBA Project

For the final stage of your programme you choose an MBA project. This can be a dissertation, an individual consultancy project, a group consultancy project or a business start-up plan. This final project connects the knowledge and expertise you have gained throughout the programme and gives you the opportunity to pursue an area of interest in depth.

Personal and Professional Development

Throughout your programme, the Personal and Professional Development module and Critical Approaches to Business modules act as pillars of support for your MBA studies and career development.

The Personal and Professional Development module begins at your induction, during which you prepare a Personal and Professional Development Journal. On completion of the module you will have an assessed Action Plan to help guide you through your career development. The Critical Approaches to Business module helps you develop the critical thinking and research skills needed for MBA study.

You choose how you study

The Oxford Brookes Global MBA is a blended programme and you can choose how you study. MBA modules can be studied online or intensively on-campus for one-week periods or a combination of both. In addition, you experience learning and interaction with our MBA community both face-to-face and online, which reflects today’s dynamic global working environment.

The MBA is highly interactive, challenging and supportive. Tutors facilitate business debates, involving MBA participants worldwide, making this a truly global programme where experiences are shared and networks developed. You can complete the programme in 30 months. ACCA members can receive credit for certain modules, enabling them to complete the distance learning programme in 24 months. If you choose to study selected modules on campus you may be able to finish your MBA in a shorter time period.

As our courses are reviewed regularly as part of our quality assurance framework, the modules you choose from may vary from those listed here.

Teaching and learning
This MBA programme provides a distinctive, collaborative learning experience. At the core, it emphasises working effectively in diverse teams, from different countries with different technical and organisational backgrounds, and develops your personal and professional competencies. You’ll build a network of worldwide contacts and engage with live business projects, enabling you to apply your newly acquired expertise and knowledge directly to your workplace.

Our leading academics on the Oxford Brookes Global MBA programme provide up-to-the-moment, cutting-edge thinking, as well as experience of contemporary business problems. They employ a supportive, collaborative approach to your learning to help you maximise your potential.

Your study experience is highly personal, whether online or face-to-face. Wherever you are living or working during your studies, you are part of an integrated, international cohort of MBA students who network, share experiences and support each other in a collaborative environment.

We are more interested in you and your personal and intellectual development than where you are ranked amongst your peers in terms of ability and achievement. This approach is embedded in our teaching, learning and assessment on the MBA programmes.

Lectures and discussions, role-play exercises, learning packages and seminars are linked with selected case studies and assignments to strengthen your practical analysis and decision-making skills. Your learning experience will be greatly enhanced through the knowledge of life and work that you and your fellow students bring to discussion and debate.

You are put in groups for assessed work where you are presented with a series of leadership challenges. These are designed to stretch you intellectually, as well as providing opportunities for each student to take on a leadership role and receive feedback on their performance from their fellow students. The Developing Leadership Capability module provides a framework for further development of leadership capabilities within a safe and supported environment.

The Oxford Brookes MBA devalues all MBA’s. I gained entry to the part-time course without a single qualification to my name. I didn’t even achieve a pass in any CSE whilst at secondary school. OK, my subsequent work experience may counteract that to a certain extent but surely a degree level qualification should be the minimum requirement for entry, not just the ability to pay. The awarding of an MBA to me, and after requiring only two visits to campus with the rest of the time being part time study where most answers can be found on the internet, makes a mockery of all other MBA’s awarded by all other universities and business schools.
