Information: In 2025, KU Leuven will celebrate its six hundredth anniversary. This makes it, together with its sister university UC Louvain, one of the oldest universities in Europe. It is also the oldest university in the Netherlands and in the whole world of all the Catholic universities in existence. The University of Louvain was officially founded by the bull published by Pope Martin V on December 9, 1425. The city of Louvain, with the support of Duke John IV of Brabant and the municipal clergy, had requested authorization for the foundation . At KU Leuven, teaching and research takes place in almost all disciplines. Education is organized by 15 faculties. Research takes place in departments and research groups. The faculties and departments are organized into 3 groups: Human Sciences, Science and Technology and Biomedical Sciences. KU Leuven has 14 campuses spread across 10 cities in Flanders.
