A Traditional View of Business Education
The School of Business at Henderson offers small classes, great professors, and a team environment that has stood the test of time. Our professors are experts in their fields and bring advanced degrees from some of the best business schools in the country. In addition, they bring vast experience in both the corporate and small business worlds. This creates the best possible graduate business experience.
The Hybrid Concept
In the online option, a student will typically take two courses per term. Each course will have a self-paced online component and two-weekend classroom sessions (Friday night and Saturday day). The weekend session can be done in class or online using video conferencing technology. This provides maximum flexibility without sacrificing quality.
The MBA Bootcamp
We want to ensure that you are ready for the rigors of graduate business education and that requires some preparation in the fundamental concepts of business, including accounting, finance, analytics, management, and marketing.
The Bootcamp is a combination of self-paced online study followed by a rigorous intense weekend that includes team building, case workshops, lectures, and assignments.
At the end of the Bootcamp you are given the Course Readiness Exam that evaluates your preparation for the eight-core courses in the MBA. You will be allowed to continue in the program, but you may be given advising on continued preparation in certain areas.
We believe this method will give you the tools that you need to succeed in the MBA at your own pace.
You can earn your MBA at the Landmark Building in downtown Hot Springs, online, or some combination of the two. You choose. In today’s busy world it is sometimes not possible to attend class two or three days a week for 16 weeks. Our face to face classes meet one day a week for two hours. Our online courses meet exclusively online, but you still have access to the professors in their offices either in Hot Springs or on the main campus in Arkadelphia.
The MBA-Hot Springs is designed to be completed in a little less than two years while taking only one or two courses per term. In addition, the cost is affordable. The estimated cost of the Henderson MBA while going two courses per term is currently about $12,000. When answering the question “how to earn your MBA” at Henderson, the answer is that it is doable even when trying to juggle the demands of life. Earning an MBA won’t be easy, but it will be worth it. Your advanced degree will help you stand out in a crowd of job candidates.
Information sessions will be held at the Landmark Building in downtown Hot Springs on the following dates:
What is the Henderson MBA?
If you were to look at the courses with a broad brush, you can put them into two different buckets. One category is for data analysis. This is data from all sorts of places; accounting data, financial data, economic data. The MBA at Henderson teaches you how to make sense of that data and use it to make strategic decisions. You will take classes in Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Information Systems, all designed to help you make sense of data in a hyper-competitive world. The second category is about people. How do you manage and communicate with people to motivate them to achieve objectives? You will take courses in Management, Leadership, and Organizational Strategy. The payoff is a degree which helps you to see the organization from both perspectives.
The Henderson MBA consists of eight required and two elective courses:
- Accounting for Business
- Strategic Information Systems
- Public Sector Economics
- Managerial Finance
- Organizational Strategy
- Marketing Seminar
- Economic Analysis for Managerial Decision-Making
- Trends in Management
You can use your electives to create an experience which suits your needs and desires. We offer electives in Marketing, Non-Profit, Analytics, Research, and a broad range of special topics courses.

When is the deadline to apply for the MBA program at HSU?
The HSU Graduate School accepts applications for the MBA program on a rolling basis. This means that you can apply at any time prior to the start of a semester. However, because there are several steps involved in the application process, we do not advise you to wait until the last minute. The Graduate School asks that you apply no later than two weeks prior to the start of a semester. Please allow plenty of time for you to take any necessary tests, transcripts to be submitted, and your application to be processed by both the Graduate School Office and the School of Business.
How do I apply?
Please see the website for the Graduate School Office. You must complete the application to the Graduate School first.
Is the GMAT/GRE required?
Yes, unless you are exempt, which means that your undergraduate GPA is a 3.5 or higher or if you have a 3.0 in the seven business core prerequisite courses.
I was not a business major as an undergraduate student. Can I still pursue the MBA?
Even if you did not obtain an undergraduate degree in a business field, you can still pursue an MBA. However, we do have a list of required undergraduate prerequisite courses. If you successfully completed these courses with a satisfactory grade, then you are eligible to enroll in the MBA program.
I do not have all of the required undergraduate prerequisite courses. What should I do?
That depends on a few things! You may take up to six hours of graduate level courses before having all of your undergraduate requirements met. This means that you would take the last of your undergraduate prerequisites while simultaneously beginning the work on the MBA degree. If, however, you are lacking several of the required undergraduate courses, we advise you to solely focus on those before you enroll in a graduate-level course.
Can I still work full-time while pursuing the MBA?
The HSU MBA program is designed to allow working professionals to maintain their work schedule while completing the requirements for the MBA. The required MBA courses, along with several electives, are offered in the evenings to accommodate a normal working schedule.
Do you offer an online MBA?
We offer an online/hybrid format where approximately 70 percent of the class is online and 30 percent is face-to-face over two sessions that meet for eight hours on a weekend.
Which classes will be offered in Hot Springs?
On the Hot Springs campus, students can complete the requirements for the MBA in just two years through a rotation of two courses each semester and two courses during the summer. Most of the courses are offered in the evening to allow working professionals the opportunity to pursue a higher degree.
